Who's eligible for Contractors Pro?
Your insurance broker has a complete list of the kinds of eligible contracting operations. The following requirements must also be met:

• minimum 3 years in business with no losses in last 3 years;
• maximum 6 full-time and 6 part-time employees;
• no operations outside Canada, and not in the business of selling, leasing or renting equipment;
• maximum $1 million in annual receipts with a maximum of 25% from sub-let contractors.

The Contractors Pro Basic Package addresses the two most important areas of concern for most contractors — tools and liability. Here's a summary:

• Tool Floater

  — $2,500 in coverage for replacement cost of tools and equipment less than 3 years old.

  • $1,500 maximum coverage on any one item.
  • $500 deductible
    

• Liability

  — up to $1 million in commercial general liability coverage for a range of situations. Ask your broker for details.

The Contractors Pro Enhanced Package consists of the Basic Package PLUS:

• Business Contents

  — replacement cost coverage of contents and tenant improvement at your business location.

  • Newly acquired locations, up to 30 days — $50,000.
  • Blanket glass coverage.
  • Signs on premises.
  • Firefighting expense — $500.
  • Debris removal.
  • Accounts receivable and valuable contents — $10,000 each.
  • Temporary locations — $10,000.
  • Contents in transit — $5,000.
  • Extra expense — $25,000.
    

• Crime

  — $2,500 comprehensive coverage for Dishonesty, Disappearance and Destruction.

Contractors Pro provides plenty of flexibility to accommodate special situations. Your Portage Mutual broker will be happy to explain the many policy extensions and enhanced-limit options available to your contracting business.

Optional extensions are available for:

• Coverage for commercial buildings.
• Contractors equipment.
• Installation floater.
• Mechanical breakdown of computer equipment.
• Extra renovation costs due to building by-laws.
• Sewer Back-up.
• Earthquake.

Optional increased coverage limits for:

• Tools.
• All items under the Contractors Pro Enhanced Package.

Discounts and deductibles.
With Contractors Pro, you can select the standard $500 deductible, or amend your policy to accommodate deductibles of $250, $1,000 or $2,500. Lower deductible amounts result in a modest raise in your annual premium, while higher deductible amounts will help you keep your costs in line.

A range of discounts is available, depending on your claims history. Here are a few examples:

Claims-free Discount: 5 per cent based on a 3-year claims-free status.

Claims-free Renewal Bonus: an extra 5 per cent upon your policy renewal, if you remain claims-free.
